At UNC Greensboro, we have many online video platform options available to our faculty, staff, and students. The handout below was created as a quick guide to help you differentiate between your options so that you can choose the best tool for your needs.

If you have questions about your options, please feel free to reach out to your SOE Instructional Technology Consultants for assistance.

Cross-listing allows you to move section enrollments from individual courses and combine them into one course. This feature is helpful for instructors who teach several sections of the same course and only want to manage course data in one location.

Cross-listing should be done while courses are unpublished. Coursework is retained with the course, not with the section enrollments, so if a published course is cross-listed, all cross-listed enrollments will lose any associated assignment submissions and grades.

Check out the how do I cross-list a section in a course as an instructor (guide) to learn more.

If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to Carla Wilson your SOE Instructional Technology Consultant & Digital Media Specialist.

Conferences (aka BigBlueButton) is a video conferencing solution, previously available from your Canvas course navigation menu. BigBlueButton is hosted by a third party (Blindside Networks) and Instructure was not able to adequately support it.  There were often issues with audio/video in BigBlueButton due to Blindside withholding resources from users in the free tier to better support those paying for their premium version.

Since we have Zoom as a video conferencing solution in Canvas – Conferences aka BigBlueButton was disabled.

If you have any questions, don’t forget that you can always reach out to your SOE Instructional Technology Consultants for one-on-one assistance.

As many of our courses move into a virtual environment, you may need to quick get up and running with Canvas.

Canvas has provided 5 videos to help you quickly set up your Canvas Course in 30 minutes or less. In these videos, you see how to get you started with an overview of Canvas, how to build and manage a course, and how to create and manage course content.

Consider viewing these additional Canvas Overview videos or reading the Canvas Instructor Guides for additional information.
